I didn't own an Xbox 360 when LP1 was released, so I missed that train. And I must admit, I wasn't even aware of a LP2 until the announcement of the Gears of War crossover. But my fanboyism toward all things Capcom got the better of me, and having a game where I could play as Wesker, Marcus, Dom AND Frank West was too much to pass up.

But the lackluster (and sometimes just plain bad) reviews set me back. I went from preordering the game to saying, "Eh, maybe later." I transfered my preorder to Alan Wake and figured I'd get LP2 when it dropped in price a year from now. When I went to get Alan Wake, though, the owner and I started talking about all the recent releases. When I told him about how I wanted to try LP2 but didn't want to waste the money, he all of a sudden offered it to me at half price.

New game. In the packaging. Half price. Something felt wrong.

I couldn't say no to the offer, though, and took it, played it, and now love it. But my question is... Did the reviews really impact sales that badly? No owner in his right mind would cut his losses a week from release unless the game was selling like absolute ****. I'm really hoping that this isn't a repeat performance of Bionic Commando (which I love) and Dark Void, otherwise we may be seeing Capcom shift its focus to the... *gasp* casual market.

Any ideas on how sales are doing, or what Capcom has to say about the reception so far?

Notice: Alan Wake average - 84%, LP2 average - 69%.

Plus, I look more at the actual review than the numbers. The biggest complaint against Alan Wake is its lack of multiplayer. Well, duh, it's built as an epic 1P game. LP2's complaints against controls, lack of story, horrible 1P experience, glitchiness, etc. was more troubling. But honestly, past the bad 1P experience, I'm not seeing much of that.

Control's not bad, just unconventional and takes some getting used to. Also, this game is meant to be played in either online co-op or competitive multiplayer thus the singleplayer critique don't mean much if you have an internet connection.

In short, this game is great!

It's people like you why games don't sell well when there great. You listen to these "game experts" who give you a score of 6.9 for a game that is great and a 9.7 for a lame one. Think about things for yourself! There are no laws regarding bribary or persuasion for higher scores. With Rockstars new Red Dead game out on the 18th wanna guess who forked out some money?

Look at the reviews from Game informer. 8.5 score and they admitted they didn't know the controls and if they did it would have gotten a better score. So stop being Lemmings people!

Lmao people like me? Listen. $60 is a large investment when you're a full time college student with a measly $8/hr job. I'm not going to buy a game on instinct. The reviews are there for people to gage what they want to buy before they cough up the cash. Sure, if I were made of money, I'd just buy whatever I wanted.

Also, the "6.9 for a game that is great and a 9.7 for a lame one" line cracked me up. That's complete and utter bias. Sure, not every game is for everyone; there are lots of high rated games I don't personally like, but the system isn't rigged against Capcom, and there is absolutely no way that Rockstar bribed every single review out there; it's yet to receive less than 90% anywhere. There are reasons for the 9.7 game gettings a 9.7 and the 6.9 getting a 6.9. Get your head out of your ass.

Now before people take offense to this, I LIKE LP2. A lot. But you can't simply assume that everyone agrees with you, nor can you say the review system is rigged just because your favorite isn't winning out. Let's look at this objectively people.

dont let Creature razz you... he gets a bit... zealous Wink

I know what you are saying about trying to make an informed decision on limited income, but coming to capcom unity might not be the best place to get an unbiased opinion.  But let me make it simple for you:  if you liked LP1 you're going to like LP2, simple.

Some of the issues they bring up are valid, some are exaggerated, some dont impact the game at all.  If you played the demos and liked those, you'll like LP2.

Why does it make since for alan wake to not have a multiplayer, (and it does make sense) but you list a weak single player in a co op game as a negative? It's like penny arcade said, "I don't think a weak single player mode in a co op game should be front page news".
