Spark Unlimited is the developer of this game. They made Turning Point. They've also made other games like Call of Duty: Finest Hour and Legendary, although the only one I've tried is Turning Point. And um, it's kinda not really good at all. That is, it's really bad. I guess I should be happy we're getting another LP at all considering LP2 wasn't exactly a huge success, but with it being outsourced to a sub-par developer I have to say my hopes are extremely low for this to turn out to be good.

It's nice to see continued support for the PC at least, but I really really wish Capcom would show more PC support from their inhouse development instead.

While it is true that Turning Point is terrible, remember this...  Blue Castle (Now Capcom Vancouver) had only developed baseball games prior to Dead Rising 2.  That had initially worried Dead Rising fans, but Dead Rising 2 turned out to be FANTASTIC!  I'd say just be patient.  Who knows how it will turn out at this point?

That's a good point, but they'd have to do a pretty huge leap to go from Turning Point which was little less than a poor Call of Duty clone to something like Lost Planet.

All they need to do is make it similar to the original Lost Planet and they'll be fine. Because the second one sucked horribly.

I would actually miss the AI coop. I liked being part of team, even if it was stupid AI. I totally support what they do with Dragon's dogma. One player is not enough for me anymore. And you could easily fix the AI coop by giving player simple command, to improve AI tactics.

But I tell you ..  in the end the game will not suck because of one or two things missing. It will suck in general.

Every team has to start somewhere. Even the best developers have released some really bad games if you go far enough back in their history. But its amazing what a little staff rearrangement and proper publisher support can do.

Mark me as cautiously optimistic.

They already said they plan on using the left trigger as a zoom button, which already counts as a big screwup in my eyes.

It seems Capcom lacks proper judgement (or cash) to fund a proper outsource studio, true Capcom could be using them as puppeting minions to help guide the team, but seeing how this studio has yet to make a decent game worries me.

One part of me thinks this is just Capcom's way of spiting the series even more than just keeping it dead. Another part of me thinks they just want a piece of the COD pie by hiring a studio that has worked on COD. Another part of me is thinking....they should have just picked a better studio no matter what the case.

I mean even when Kojima couldn't pursue his spin-off of Metal Gear Rising, he actually had the brains to go the Platinum Games, a small studio yes but one that has made what seems to be only hits of 8/10 or better.

I mean, at least with ORC they had the excuse that Slant Six has "in their history" made some positively reviewed titles, but Spark Unlimited (which that name for a studio has to be one of the biggest ironies ever) HAS YET to make a positively reviewed game. Even their COD title pailed in comparison to IW and Treyarch.

That and, IIRC Lost Planet was not a take on Halo...but more a co-take on Gears of War, since it seems Capcom and Epic Games have a lot of positive back and forth between both franchises (even to having Gears DLC for LP2).

Speaking of which, this is not even a game working on MT Framework, its freaking UE3. That means no DX10/(true)DX11 support, and it just seems Dead Space X Gears of War x Mechwarrior....3 games by WESTERN developers....and guess what Lost Planet so awesome..IT BEING JAPANESE!

I don't freaking care if Capcom wants to kiss up to J-TPS haters like IGN...this is not the way to go!

If they wanted a piece of the COD pie they wouldn't be funding an open world survival shooter where you primary enemies are large insectoids.

And I'm fine with the left trigger being used as a zoom in like most shooters nowadays. I'm not fine with it on all games, some games I think it doesn't belong and may never really accept it's presence, but for Lost Planet I think it'll work well. All it does it slow the gameplay down a little bit, not by a lot but just a little. And honestly when you think about Lost Planet would you rather be fighting an akrid every 2 seconds and run around killing them like their nothing or have more tense situations where you're not sure if you're going to run into an akrid or not and if you do it'll be really hard to bring down? The design choice works for me, but hopefully there's still a lot of the same design choices we're used to already in Lost Planet such as the roll and grenade shooting.
