My God...  they would take away one of the greatest joys in the game, which is the art parrying a rocket or grenade with a perfectly timed roll.  I imagine they're going to go the "bullet sponge" route like Gears of War, because it requires less thought to program than to go over individual animations.  I figured all the Capcom staff, including Sven, understood these characteristics that distinguish LP.  To a seasoned LP player, this is probably going to feel like going from SF3: Third Strike back to Street Fighter 2.

I have a new piece of news that can only be interpreted negatively:

Combat is stiffer than previous Lost Planets, with punchier guns and a left-trigger zoom lifted from every western shooter of the last half-decade. It’s perfect for a multiplayer shooter, though not necessarily like the one Lost Planet fans know and love. “There will be multiplayer,” says Szymanski. “We aren’t giving away the details, but there will be multiplayer – it’s a very important part of the franchise, and it’s very important to us.”

They're going to waste an entire trigger on a zoom function?  It's growing more apparent that Spark is hardly going to give a **** about what constitutes an LP game, and will proceed to arrogantly make their own little Western TPS, designed by limp-wristed developers for limp-wristed players.

Oh good they already ruined the game.

How can there be snow pirates when NEVEC was a "legit" organization during this game. at least the beginning of it.

But remember, nevec was on the planet before having too escape due too the akrids, leaving behind the unfortunate people ahem *snow pirates* then they returned with vs's. So either we will play during that time when they retreat or this is after the retreat.

Where are people getting the impression that there won't be co-op? If you look at Spark Unlimited job postings, they are looking for a Senior Multiplayer Level Designer with, and I quote, "Strong understanding of co-operative and competitive multiplayer mechanics plus the capacity to brainstorm practical yet novel ideas to expand gameplay possibilities in the AAA-console multiplayer arena."

It very well could be a different mode. That seems to be the popular thing now of days. I could see a different story for co-op.

I'm not sure why left trigger zooming is such a big deal. I doubt they'll have the 90 degree turning anymore, so grenades will probably be LB or RB. And it's always possible they'll have "classic" controls as an option.

I think the problem is that it takes away from one of Lost Planet's charms or trademarks and just adds something in it's place that's been done to death by every other western shooter as a staple of the genre as of current.

My MegaMan preference for MVC3 would had been Starforce, but yeah sure, I'll jump on this bandwagon, if X does indeed get in as DLC, there better be gamers playing as him or else this would had been a waste of time and missed opportunity for another Capcom Character...

In traditional LP, "grenade" is way more important than "zoom," and the inputs were mapped accordingly on the controller (with zoom being relegated to the dpad in the default configuration, where it arguably belonged because it was almost never used, even by snipers).  If they offer alternatives, than there's no issue.  I use 90 degree turns all the time - combined with a low sensitivity bounding box, it makes me roughly as competitive as a seasoned keyboard and mouse user.  It's one of the only shooters where a gamepad user can really give them a run for their money, specifically because of these options and other mechanics (like the dodging) that it makes available.

Of course, for all we know, they got rid of grenades and a ton of other stuff, and are focusing all of their effort on a single player story experience, with more shallow mechanics that refer back to Gears, Dead Space, or even Red Faction.  Kenji Oguro is still directing it, though, so maybe there is hope.

I am bummed that there's a huge possibility that the "dodge-roll" manuever may no longer be in effect. Like an above-poster said, half of the joy of the combat was managing to fight your way out of situations that should've killed you by knowing when was that glorious, precise moment to evade. It helped level the playing the field, especially in LP2, where you could use it to win despite an abundance of overpowered gear prevalent in most of the weapon variants (Homing rockets, triple-shot instant-kill Plasma Cannon SPs, and so on...) ... so without a dodge-roll mechanic Spark is going to have to be on-the-money in terms of their weapon balance and playtesting thoroughly to make sure of it for an LP to function without its trademark dodge-roll's invulnerability frames.

Also, the FPS for the mechs doesn't really bother me. I know that sounds crazy, but I'm an old Mechwarrior vet... stomping around in a five-story goliath that moves like a beached whale is something that isn't that alien of a concept to me.

(WHOOOOO...well, y'know, this would take place after 10 minutes of stomping around...but, yeah...I grew up on this crap.)

Realistically, and I know it sucks, is that the "prequel" aspect of this game is going to radically change the VSes we all know and love. Instead of streamlined combat-oriented mechanized killing machines meant for fighting, it seems like the VSes are basically the slow-moving behemoths designed for mining. I'm not opposed to the idea... I'm just gonna really miss my Faze or my Hardballer. :/

What I detest most is the "horror" aspects and the whole "have to stab these akrids in the head!" when in close-quarters. I've always loved LP for the fact they're sci-fi shoot'em ups in third-person... so having the whole "Aliens" style of sci-fi horror potentially takes away from it.

I'd also love co-op of some sort. :/

But most, and the ABSOLUTE MOST problem that I have with LP3 is the nagging question, and I know I'm not the only grisled ol' LP vet that's pondered this: "After how Capcom strung along and outright abandoned the LP2 community, are we willing to put faith in them to do us right for this installment?"

Oh yeah, Zero, bow before your omnipotent warlord! Just kiddin'. I'm just an old ghost that sometimes tries to round up what's left of our abandoned community.

Has anyone tracked down any actual gameplay footage?
