I don't understand .. what was wrong with LP2 trailers ? I liked the trailers, I like the game .. I agree the MP part sucked, but I'm totally happy with singleplayer, for me it's the best game of 2010.
Yeah, sure .. this is not gameplay trailer .. but I just don't see how this gonna work, and what's more, how this is going to be LP game. LP2 has same feeling, same design team, simmilar engine, simmilar design as LP 1. It's the next part of the game. You liked LP, big chance you will like LP2. And the design of anything in the trailer just revolts me. Ugly hero, ugly monsters, ugly mech, ugly boss. And it's all so WESTERN .. it's like Ghost in the shell made by Michael Bay. Everything is wrong .. everything ..
Wrong is missing content... and few more things. We discussed it long ago, check old threads, no point to start it again.
Main character reminds me Grey from Bulletstorm. I would prefer Wayne or his father, but these are secondaire oddments. If i`ll have a chance to play him for a whole game (LOL) - i`ll probably get to like him.
Original LP team will be working with SPARK, so there is a chance to keep LP mood.
Don`t forget folks that we didn`t see LP1 characters in LP2 without a reason. Story continous here. They had to reboot series due lack of agreement with company who owns rights to Wayne and rest of characters.
I like scent of humor in this trailer. I`d like to see it in final game.
Short summary:They cut the co-op. Not bad. Not great either since I'm a co-op guy. Talk to npcs, side quests, upgrade gear, build your own VS...mech Rig from custom parts you collect from the campaign.

Good to see us all back here again, not exactly on my favorite terms, but it's nice.
The Trailer from 2 years ago caught my interest and brought me here happy, this one brought disdain and brought me here with the opposite reaction.
Sad they took out the Co-op, what they did with Operation Raccoon City's characterization was a step in the right direction to what I thought would be a good compromise for a Lost Planet 3. For a recap of that idea, 4 characters with unisex names, male and female voice for each, characters can be customized and gender changed and said characters are used for multiplayer character slots. I'm a big fan of co-op games since I was young.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worrying, I'll keep it on my radar but after the last few years starting from the debacle of LP2-now with Capcom, I won't be hype for anymore of their games. I still have a lot of anger and fustration and they aren't helping, continuing with this. I don't like the Akrid design, I don't like the Vital Suit design, and I don't like Jim. Not enthusiastic about the FPCamera for VS either, nor use of Unreal. Have not found a FPS I've liked save for occasional James Bond and Halo, and I can't remember a game I own using Unreal.
For a series they said during LP2 1. Caused Financial failure (Then SSFIV apparently fixed that), 2. Didn't sell towards it's extreme COD like sales expected of it. and 3. Not getting it's DLC and left it's fans in the dark with unanswered questions, they made a 3rd game pretty fast.
Do your games correctly and support them over a basis of years to refresh the product rather than piece together whats missing Capcom and you wouldn't have to make sequel after sequel, it worked for Halo 3 - Reach, you know, the series that your very own Lost Planet has it's original inspirations from.
Also, does Jim even have an Anchor? No signs of Data Posts, or a PDA (I think). Am I the only one thinking "What is wrong with Capcom, what are they doing?" For the last 2, 3 or so years?
Support NEVEC in MVC3!Click Here! [Currently Playing: BFBC2, LP2, MHTri] The Rebellion Army owns you now... My MegaMan preference for MVC3 would had been Starforce, but yeah sure, I'll jump on this bandwagon, if X does indeed get in as DLC, there better be gamers playing as him or else this would had been a waste of time and missed opportunity for another Capcom Character...

It's been so long since I've been here I didn't even remember I had an account.
Anyways, the IGN article says "Jim is very exposed. A grappling hook lets him explore higher ground."
And, "It's when Jim plants his thermal post in a cave – the thermal posts that you used in Lost Planets 1 and 2 were all originally planted by earlier colonists like Jim"
Hey, I think I remember you from the beta key era.
I see, good find, well nice to know that some things are still there. He'd better not have regenerating health, LP has always tried to explain why their characters had that ability through Harmonizers, along with the rest of their displays of superhuman powers.
I thought Ivan Solotov's project in LP1 had something to do with the Data Posts that were currently on the planet.

Capcom has officially announced Lost Planet 3. Set to return in 2013, the new sequel returns to planet EDN III. The game introduces Jim, a contractor who has left Earth to obtain samples of Thermal Energy on EDN III for Neo-Venus Construction (NEVEC). Jim visits the Coronis base on EDN III and soon sets out on a mission to find a natural source of Thermal Energy using a utility rig. According to Capcom, "acting as a home away from home and boasting an array of tools that can assist Jim on the field, the utility rig provides Jim's safety and is essential for not only his contract work but also his protection against the ever-changing climate. "
Lost Planet 3 will feature first-person combat while playing in the rig and third-person combat on foot. The game will be powered by Unreal Engine 3 instead of the MT Framework engine that powered past Lost Planet titles.
AAAaaannnnnnnd We're done here.
Quoted for truth. This is looking like pretty bad news all around. Do you think they'll even retain the animation penalty mechanics of the previous LP games? Will they let us adjust the orientation of the camera, or let us toggle a bounding box for aiming?
1. They'll try to "stay with the original" or take the core concepts to heart, but totally butcher them like Slant Six did to RE:ORC.
2. They'll try to overly "westernize" it, losing many of the aspects that gave the original two their charm and endearing complexities, alienating their main fanbase by attempting to appeal to a more broad spectrum of gamers.
Either way, I'll try not to facepalm yet until I see some gameplay footage.
I hope they just take concepts from the first Lost Planet and forget about the second game. If they can practically remake the first one, but with a few chanes. I will be eternally happy.
No idea what they will keep and what not. I found interview with SVEN where he was talking about reasons why LP2 failed , and he listed invulnerability animations as one of reasons (`ill try to find and link it).
If i get it correct it will be some kind of open world, so no wonder they quit co-op. Hard to imagine co-op in no-line story. Probably it`s also hard to make good AI in co-op game. Enemies have 4 targets to focus on, not 1.
I wouldn`t worry so much about VSs FPP. First of all in multiplayer (most important for most of us) human character is most important. Second , when entering VS its common thing that your view is limited - just like in FPP. TPP gives you illusion of free view, not limited (main reason why i play TPP games). When you get in VS you can relay on displays and FPP can be reasonable. It`ll also nerf VS a little and give human more chance when fighting against it. However i can`t imagine fighting with such a big VS i saw on trailer with just 1 human... Unless it will be very slow and have many, big weak spots.
Personally i can stand FPP view in VS. I worry about gameplay, mechanics and weapon balance.

My God... they would take away one of the greatest joys in the game, which is the art parrying a rocket or grenade with a perfectly timed roll. I imagine they're going to go the "bullet sponge" route like Gears of War, because it requires less thought to program than to go over individual animations. I figured all the Capcom staff, including Sven, understood these characteristics that distinguish LP. To a seasoned LP player, this is probably going to feel like going from SF3: Third Strike back to Street Fighter 2.
I have a new piece of news that can only be interpreted negatively:
Combat is stiffer than previous Lost Planets, with punchier guns and a left-trigger zoom lifted from every western shooter of the last half-decade. It’s perfect for a multiplayer shooter, though not necessarily like the one Lost Planet fans know and love. “There will be multiplayer,” says Szymanski. “We aren’t giving away the details, but there will be multiplayer – it’s a very important part of the franchise, and it’s very important to us.”

They're going to waste an entire trigger on a zoom function? It's growing more apparent that Spark is hardly going to give a **** about what constitutes an LP game, and will proceed to arrogantly make their own little Western TPS, designed by limp-wristed developers for limp-wristed players.
