That's really the heart of it, mandatory installations. I like Capcom games but I just don't want to have to upgrade my HDD (and it's refreshing to have that 55 GB in comparison to the restrictive 14 GB available on the 360) for being a devout fan. If it's multi-platform, I may just go with the 360 version, since for all it's worth, the game won't be taking up anything besides the disc. It just seems like a cop-out, especially when games like Uncharted don't even need an install and still look and run great. Really, what does that install do if something that looks and runs just as well if not better needs nothing but the disc? Having played both DMC4 and Uncharted on the PS3, I really can't say I've noticed any noticeable difference in load times.
In a way, people have to look out for the PS3 so that devs don't get lazy and just do an HDD dump only because it's there. With this next-gen of HDD inclusion, I feel that that space is for free consumer use (differentiating it from a system PC's use), and choice in whether to install or not is also a consumer's decision. Mandatory seizure of that space is troubling to say the least.
And Lucent, get to playing Persona 3. I'm knee deep in it now and I have to say, it's the most interesting JRPG I've played in awhile. I spent Showa day playing an MMORPG (all in game) and developed a social link through which I could later strengthen my Personas for dungeon use. Went to a restaurant for noodles that improved my charm :D and fell asleep in class so that I could be in a better condition to dungeon crawl later that night. And Atlus's localization really caught me off guard with a Brokeback Mountain joke.
I really have to agree with you, hulot. I don't want to see developers for the PS3 start to force us to install a game. The sad thing is the fact that DMC4 and Lost Planet are multiplatform. They run fine on the 360 with no installation at all. So I don't see why they couldn't allow you to play them on the PS3 without installation. Like you said, it's awesome having the 55GB compared to the huge cut they take out of the 360's "20GB" HDD, so I'd like to use that space for more than installing every new game I get. I like having a lot of demos on my system so I have random stuff to play with.
I am still getting most games on the PS3 now, though, just because the 360 has just upset me with its high-failure rate and stupid DRM. I don't even know why they thought that M$ point system was cool. It always annoyed me when I spent all but like 100 or 10 points, for example, and I'd need to buy another fixed ammount. At least on the PS3 you can just see how much an individual item is actually worth in real dollars and just buy it without worrying about getting just enough points to put you over to where you can buy something. And they know the 360, regardless of the failure-rate, can eventually go out and you'd need to buy another. So the whole thing about losing most of the functionality you had with you downloaded items on a new system is stupid.
Anyway...*sigh*...I've had Persona 3 on my list for awhile now. Just those Atlus games hardly ever drop in price because they're known for making limited copies and all that. That's why Disgaea fetches such a high price on eBay. I'm thinking about going to the rental store and renting some games to try out. Maybe rent Odin Sphere and Persona 3 if they're both in. I think the reviewer on GameTrailers.com said that each character in Odin Sphere (about 5 characters) takes 8-10 hours to complete. If that's true, then that game would have some crazy decent length.
But hey, if price is a problem, you might still luck out if Persona 3: Fes makes it stateside. It's essentially one of those ultimate editions that the Japanese seem to love to make. There's a countdown on the Atlus website and there are signs pointing towards a Fes announcement. If it does come over, I guess you should make sure you snatch up a retail copy on release.
And wait, high prices for Disgaea on eBay? Where? Both the first and second ones are fetching for below $30 or so dollars. Look up Persona 1 for the PSX =P

Yeah I read about that on kotaku.com. I was confused because they referred to it as an expansion, so I thought it was somehow a seperate disc or something. If it's the full game plus the upgrade and they release it here, I'm gonna be on top of it. The original is up on ebay for like $60 or so. I copped Disgaea 2 at Wal-Mart for $30 last night so I wouldn't make the same mistake I did with the first one, though the prices seem more reasonable for it on ebay now.
FES was sold in both ways, as an expansion and as a full game. Don't know how they'll do it here, if it gets a stateside release. I just hope my copy of Persona 3 doesn't get devalued. Maybe they won't do the whole art book, soundtrack, and box for FES.

And I'm not surprised. That those games went for that much. Atlus is known to make limited quantities. Games like those become cult classics. I heard the first Persona was crap, though. :(
Oh, I started playing Gurumin and Loco Roco on the PSP. They're both pretty fun. Gurumin reminds me of Brave Fencer Musashi a bit, but I guess that's because everybody looks short because of the art style. The humor is pretty good. Reminds me of the Lunar games. I need to get a hold of those again someday. Might have to go through ebay. And Loco Roco just makes me laugh.
The Patapon demo is also fun. I dunno if I'd get addicted, but it's got a great style much like Loco Roco.

I'm so hooked to Patapon, I preordered and paid for it.
