I only post here :) Anyways, I don't want to worry but it looks like Lost Planet on the PS3 will require a 5 GB installation. http://www.ps3style.com/news.php?id=159Which of course goes back to my previous comments about premium drive space. I for one don't like to burn money, maybe some do but was anyone bothered by Lost Planet's load times on the 360? What's the point of this huge install? Perhaps this is what next-gen is, never-ending HDD upgrades? There really is no way to justify it.

Guess I'll have to delete stuff.

I doubt the DMC4 install made any real difference compared to the 360 version. I can understand it for big games like Grand Theft Auto, but this is just kind of rediculous. I will upgrade my HDD sometime in the future, but not until the price gets lower and/or I really need the space.

Like I said, I find it really hard to justify this trend. And I only bring this up with these two multi-platform games. It's not a matter of whining, but rather a matter of some glazing over what is really an important issue. So did anyone find the 360's loading times for Lost Planet that bothersome or long? Since Nubbin's on the inside now, what exactly does this install improve as you've mentioned in your 'anti-whiner' post? From what I hear on the demo front, it seems the port isn't even up to the original. It's really not even about buying a new harddrive, a money issue, I just want to know, is this large install worth what it takes up? Does it "help things run better, smoother, etc."? I installed Folklore's data, from the menu because it was an optional one GB install and load times were cut by at least 50%. Are these the same results that DMC4 and Lost Planet will have achieved?
And as for the PS3 being a PC, until it comes pre-installed with an operating system that can support word processing out of the box, I will continue to treat it like a console. How many of you really have Linux installed and use it as your main computer? I don't believe they've even released graphic card drivers for it either so it's not as if you could play PC games on your PS3, let alone any graphics intensive things.
It may seem vitriolic, but heck, I don't think all of us should be bending over for this. Look, I'm just saying, if some asks you to burn money because it was the cool thing to do, would you be a cheapskate or behind the times for not wanting to? And Fab, I believe you'll still need the Lost Planet disc in your system.

I loved being able to dump a whole game onto the original Xbox and never needing to use the disc again... I duno what you guys are whining abOOOT :p This isn't the same thing, though. The disc is still required to play DMC4 even though it took up 5GB to install. I don't think they'll ever just allow you to download a disc onto your HDD and then not have to put it in again. They would have to make some kinda special code or key like they do with PC games so that people weren't taking advantage of it and just going out to rent the game and then actually getting a virtual copy. You know what I mean?
Anyway, this doesn't bother me all that much right now. I still have 30GB/55GB and that's only cuz I have DMC4, Warhawk, 11 demos, and several other things on it.
BTW, it looked like Othin and you had some kinda clan tag going on Warhawk because I saw it when I checked the friend's list on there. Send me an invite for that and teach me how to play. lol.
Lastly, get your arse on the messenger sometime tonight or tomorrow. I don't get off work until after 11:30pm tonight so I probably won't be on until after midnight. I need some help with my PSP talking to my PS3 and stuff. :D

Hulot, there is no doubt that the 360 version is superior. The fact is, the turn around for how fast they created this port is amazing. Especially since it doesn't look all that different from the 360 version. Being that they did it so fast (to make a profit, you must get an already year old software out to market), an install time was probably the best way to accomplish a speedy and stable release of the game.
I'm sure the install will help speed up online play, since it probably includes the maps. In the demo, I notice the "Please Wait" or "Loading..." screens are much faster than the 360. Just my observation, as no doubt internet connections play a part in it as well. And the PSN seems vastly more stable than XBL.
I wasn't trying to insult you either by the "whining" comment, it was playful jesting. I'm sorry if it sounded insulting... :(
Also, you don't necessarily need the disc to play a game in the PS3... But that kind of talk is not allowed in these forums.

I know its not the same thing.. but back on the original xbox.. "backing up" a game to the hd would take up 4-8gb per game.. I didnt think it was a big deal. thats the beauty of 200-300-500gb HDs.
Who knows why its MANDITORY with LP and DMC4.. maybe its lazy programming.. maybe they used it as a way to get past the ram "issues" of the PS3.
either way.. I dont see it being a big deal.. Ive accepted this inevetable future of console gaming.

That's really the heart of it, mandatory installations. I like Capcom games but I just don't want to have to upgrade my HDD (and it's refreshing to have that 55 GB in comparison to the restrictive 14 GB available on the 360) for being a devout fan. If it's multi-platform, I may just go with the 360 version, since for all it's worth, the game won't be taking up anything besides the disc. It just seems like a cop-out, especially when games like Uncharted don't even need an install and still look and run great. Really, what does that install do if something that looks and runs just as well if not better needs nothing but the disc? Having played both DMC4 and Uncharted on the PS3, I really can't say I've noticed any noticeable difference in load times.
In a way, people have to look out for the PS3 so that devs don't get lazy and just do an HDD dump only because it's there. With this next-gen of HDD inclusion, I feel that that space is for free consumer use (differentiating it from a system PC's use), and choice in whether to install or not is also a consumer's decision. Mandatory seizure of that space is troubling to say the least.
And Lucent, get to playing Persona 3. I'm knee deep in it now and I have to say, it's the most interesting JRPG I've played in awhile. I spent Showa day playing an MMORPG (all in game) and developed a social link through which I could later strengthen my Personas for dungeon use. Went to a restaurant for noodles that improved my charm :D and fell asleep in class so that I could be in a better condition to dungeon crawl later that night. And Atlus's localization really caught me off guard with a Brokeback Mountain joke.
