Did you know that when you are searching for a match that you can left mouse click on the gold colored rotating circles and your match listing, if any, will appear right away? If you see immediately that the result is 0/16 then you know there are currently no matches to join.
What type of Internet Service Provider (ISP) do you use? You mentioned a "hub". Are you on some type of LAN? Or by "hub" do you mean a cable modem or DSL modem?

Well, through video you can know that when the chance comes, i can't join in a game even if there maybe a couple of seats available. The screen shows 1/16 means there are 15 left, right? But not for me, and even if i want to create a game is in vain. i'd like to tell you all my set is right, and i can join in in very a few times, maybe 4 or 5 hours a day only. So i am so sure my network is fine.
i live in Taiwan and my isp serve me 8m/640, the auto-r has 4 ports in its back, when i can join a game, the shock mark shows very clear. All i wonder is if this is steam fault maybe they should figure out something useful to let everone join the online mode and have a lot of fun there. We are not the guys to pay money only to see the team's effort and yet it is on pc, the most convenient network environment. i try to look at steam server shows in the window, there are 45X servers that people play cs games on, but for lp, it is really hard to join in, that's all.

A hub is basically a router except that network data gets transmitted from the source to the hub, then the hub transmits data to every single port on it (regardless of which computer has requested data). That is why routers have been fazing out hubs over the recent years. More efficient than a hub because it only transmits data to the computer/port on hub that requested it.
Just in case that's what you wondering.

if i use only hub function and no firewalls, that means all the ports lp mp needed is available, right? But even though i can't join or create a game, that's my problem.

Not necessarily. You would still need to open the ports that LP needs thru the hub. So basically, go into the hubs menu, and port forward whatever ports are needed. They are probably closed by default.
Although that doesn't guarentee you will be able to play, because I still can't...

Hub is a very simple machine maybe there isn't any menu you can enter.
The menu you have mentioned can be the function of router, not hub, especially for those very very cheap type, no driver, no manual, just hub, and if the isp give you 2 float ip, and the hub has 4 ports, that means the 2 ports can't surf the internet, that's my point. And i am so sure my auto-r doesn't has the function that you can turn on or off the ports you want.

i found if you can create a game, then maybe you can enter a game easily. For me, i tried this whole night and played mabye just 4 to 5 matches during 5:30 to 6:15 AM and finally the network is malfunction and lost its connection. Maybe next time i can figure out maybe for those people who can't play mp just because they need to play during the early morning. But let me make a dream that steam can fix it, now i really need to take a good sleep. Here are some shots i took before, mp is fun to give it a try.
