Oh hey guys, whats going on in this thread?
|
|
so last night i had the intention of buying a small HDTV. nothing big, just a 20in or something. i have a 20in SD right now, so i wouldnt mind about the same size widescreen, a little smaller. doesnt bother me any, just as long as i have my lost planet in HD :).
well after shopping around at a few places with my fiance, she decided that a tv like that is too small. so i told her to pick out a good one... well she went back to the 32in that we planned to get awhile ago, but never did. so now i will have what i originally hoped for :D not too big, not too small, just a medium sized 32in HD! but its a couple hundred more so it'll have to wait 2 weeks.
anyways, i know most of you guys have HD sets, so i was wondering if the VGA cables are still the way to go for a 32in? also for later on, if a digital surround sound system is worth while? (my current surround sound is prologic II) i know i could probably figure out most of the stuff on my own, but i would rather have you guys help me out on the settings, cables, and all that fun stuff instead. especially what you guys do for the gaming aspect of it, mostly lost planet of course :D thanks!

I play on an old beat-up 15 inch Hewlett Packard CRT computer monitor.

Hulot what are you using to connect the monitor? Also how is the quality, Are you getting 720p equivalent or higher? I have always been interested in buying a component to RGB converter and using a computer monitor for console gaming.

If the TV accepts VGA, try it out if you can. Depending on the TV, VGA will look better, or possibly not as good as component. Some TVs don't have good VGA inputs, and/or don't let you adjust any of the picture adjustments using the VGA input.
It might not make much of a difference - who knows.
As far as the sound goes, you're most of the way there already with DPLII. If you can use your speakers with a new receiver, then it would just be a matter of getting a new receiver. You'd use the digital optical "toslink" cable connection to plug into the output on the X360 cables and into a digital audio input on the receiver. This would give you the 5.1 signal you need. There are some very good deals out there if you know where to look. I got a Harman-Kardon receiver, MSRP $800, for $250.
If you can't use your speakers with a different receiver, though, meaning you'd have to upgrade the whole thing, that's another story. It would be an upgrade to go to DD 5.1, but whether it's worth it for you or not is another story...
Let me know if you need any specific advice on audio equipment, etc. :D

Well the one i'll probably get is the OLEVIA 32" 2 Series LCD HDTV (232V). It has a VGA input, even though it doesn't say it here. Its cheap, but when i googled it most people seem to like it for use with their 360s. and it seems most of them use the VGA cables to go with it. As far as VGA cables go, it seems most of the reviews say to buy the Microsoft one, instead of any off-brand. what do you use? And i have never thought of just using my speakers with a new receiver. that would save me a ton! my speakers are great, love em. but im not sure if they'd work with a new receiver, they are split wires on the end, positive and negative, you know what i mean? well anyways, if they work with other receivers then what kind do you recommend? i probably wont use anything over 300whatts, since thats what i have now. and i would need it to have an RCA output for my gaming chair as well. I was thinking of just buying a whole new system though. The Pioneer Home Theater System for Xbox 360 looks nice and would fit well into my entertainment center with my 360. Its 600whatts, but i doubt if i get it that i'd use all that power.
