i am thinking ram is slowing most people down. I am seeing people with comparable or better machines than i have.  At 1280X1024  91 snow 58 cave all full graphics.

Only diff i can see is i have 4 gb ram compared to 2 gb.  Also using 240 pin ballistix.

Maybe upgrade your ram level you will get better fps. Is only diff im seeing with similar  high end sys

I tested the Ram today and with everything on maximum my system never went over using more then 43% of Ram,on my system that means about 850MB in use.
So I dont think memory is an issue when comparing 2G with 4G.

Agreed, 2Gb is more than enough for this game with 32bit Vista.

well didnt say it was a fix just a guess. Is only reason i can see in fps performance with people with same or better cpu and same gfx.

I could easily be wrong so many variables ... could be under supplied power. Has to be a reason im getting better than  man over there with same rig.

could also be a diff in vista and xp  as of now im not using vista as every game i play is xp i wil use vista once i need it

Not really sure what the mad onion score  means as i have 4 sys running at home and they all deviate.

Am i running anti virus umm yes if i turn off i get better benchies am i going to turn off anti virus for any length of time hell no.

I just tested with the new 158.45 drivers and it seems to give a nice performance boost.

158.45------>snow 63 fps  cave 43 fps

158.42------>snow 56 fps  cave 43 fps

Get the drivers here,
Vista 32 bit

Vista 64 bit

I only tested the 32 bit version for obvious reasons:D

Yeah, those drivers rock. I get snow 70fps average, with a max over 100fps. I got 43fps average for cave, caves score is probably limited by my CPU though.

I'm running a GeForce 8600GTS with 256mb RAM, and I'm only getting about 40fps with the settings at 2/3 maxed, and I was wondering if this is decent since I'm new to PC gaming.

My rig is a...

AMD 64x2 2.3GHz CPU
2 Gigs Patriot RAM
GeForce 8600GTS 256RAM GPU
Windows Vista Home Premium
