That Machine Gun sound effect was around before Lost Planet: Extreme Condition was released, but changed.  I hope it doesn't happen again!

yea the graphics and sound are a lot better but who knows if thats actually how it will be. how many times have we seen game videos and then get dispointed when the full version is released? the trailer seems like it was made to show the differences in lost planet 2 from lost planet 1. it wasn't a great trailer for a new game but it shows us the changes that they have made since we already know all the other basics. also im curious as to when this time period is. how much farther is it after the end of the first game?




Just to let everyone know, the footage you saw was in game. That's how the game looks right now, running. It's impressive to say the least. I could barely believe it myself the first time I saw it.

Trailer looks very good, heres hoping Colonies will go down in history as the "Microsoft ME" of the franchise. Items which I did not see in the trailer that I hope make it in the final product:


 


1. Kick and ban


2. Some sort of realistic mode allowing for no invincibility in animation


3. Variable environment injury, ex. if I jump off the top building in Lost Coast I'm toast


4. Material based grappling


5. Detailed match customization, ala old school Bond titles for example


 


Number 1 will make the difference between a preorder and a bargin bin purchase for me. While I am making my way through permanent match banning quite nicely, an easier way would be more welcome, and will instantly clean up the gameplay. I'm interested to see the new modes of play in LP2. Hopefully Capcom will take care of the problems with online that will bring old fans back to the game. Here's hoping the gentleman in the beginning of the trailer isn't just blowing smoke and Capcom is interested in improving the product.

I don't like 1 much, it could be abused and used unfairly.


I don't like 2 because if there is that kind of damage then there should be a way to regain health, and apparently people are against that. I am fine with having certain aspects to be unlike reality, after all we don't play games to replicate reality.

I don't think there is any question whether Capcom want to improve their product. The in game footage looks amazing! I'm praying that online will look, and for the most part, play like the campaign.


I don't know exactly what people don't like about Colonies but even the die hard fans have to admit, there were a lot of cheap tactics used to win online in the first game, so i'm all for them making tweaks to make things more fair.


I hope that Capcom reveal the online set-up well in advance of the games release so that we could maybe have some input.

I plan on a full dissection of the trailer later, but for now I'll tell you one thing I noticed.  That shield the Snow Pirate is wearing and is placed down as a wall is a VS weapon.  You can see two VS's equipped with them on their left arms just before that scene.

Capcom, you make me happy. First you announce a sequel to Dead Rising, and now show off footage of Lost Planet 2.


 


I hope there's some way of customizing our characters appearance. Unlocking skins was ok, but the leveling system (to an average player like me) was way too strict. I always ended up with an even K/D ratio in a match only to make crap points for the effort.

1. As opposed to what, having a cheater rack up mega scores at your teams expense until everyone puts the controller down hoping he will just go to another match? Funny, I've heard that argument over and over again, however have yet to hear a rational explanation why it would be unfair. I've never been a fan of arbitrary kicking, that's what private slots are for... however being subject to cheating without recourse is in my opinion more abusive than what you are suggesting. I have no less than a dozen XBLF's abandon LP over this issue, specifically how easy it is to cheat.


2. Perhaps you don't play games to replicate reality, but at least giving the option of realistic mode would add a very interesting wrinkle to the game, ex. finding more unique ways of getting out of corners if you know the 10 story fall in back of you is going to end things quickly. If anything I think it wil add a little more strategy to the game. I know I play the game differently since I know I can just jump off the back of a structure and be fine. Having that limitation will make people think twice about the old grapple, fire and fall trick. Thinking exit strategy will become more a part of play.


Frankly, everyone likes flashy graphics, but those don't make a game with staying power. Playability is key, as evidenced by the reality that people still shell out money for 8 bit classics, not for the graphics but for the gameplay.

Anyway, LP2 looks awesome. Little disappointed it wasn't a MvC3 or PowerStone 3 though. Still, can't wait.
