I'm gonna be on Lost Planet for a few hours tonight.
And yeah, that strategy guide is a waste if you don't care about target marks.

I normally buy Strat guides for two reasons.
A) Probably something so minor, I could just look on the internet -- but I normally can't read webpages while I'm sitting on the "John" because I'm too lazy to bring my lap-top.
B) They normally have good high qaulity imagary I can choose to photoshop at my own leasure for some fan-produced content at one put in the future.

I have an unhealthy habit of buying strategy guides for every RPG I buy. Don't ask me why. I just do. 90% of them aren't even "read", they're just browsed-through for nice pictures. =D I've got quite a good collection built up already, and I don't I can stop myself from stopping anytime soon. Oh well.

The only games I ever got strat guides for are Resident Evil 2, Brave Fencer Musashi, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, and Final Fantasy Tactics. Two of those were free.
I could beat Resident Evil 2 in 2 and 1/2 hours on Leon and Claire's first scenerios because I had them memorized so well after awhile.

I've never bought a strategy guide and never plan on it either. Everything in them and more will just end up on the internet some time or another.

I wouldn't use guides now, although sometimes I do check for stuff on GameFAQs. One game I would love to have a guide for, though, is Viva Pinata. (laugh and you get 2x! gum grenades to the face! my 8yo daughter's into it too). There's a nice guide to the Pinatas on GameFAQs, but the game is pretty deep and there's lots of stuff to unlock (ie., how do I unlock sandwiches for the swans?!) :D

I wouldn't laugh at you for liking Viva Pinata. After playing games like Harvest Moon, Animal Crossing, and The Sims, I can see why that would be a good game. :D
