reason you can play them are ... they are older games and if not older games written on older engines.. graw is what ? 14 months old? Cod2 more.. Rehash games on older engine. Don't you remember how people bitched when Q4 released or Doom 3 , im only getting spotty fps whaaaa... They are not writing the  game for you (this may not be the case with capcom in this instance) they are coding an engine to sell to other developers. Games in this case are a showcase ... look what we can do.

I'd like to drive a lambo .. but cant afford one so i dont ... should they make them cheaper so i can?

No ... so why dumb down games

Games and hardware are ever evolving its the nature of the pc.  Buy now something better comes out 3 months later. You cant expect to be cutting edge on 2 year old hardware.

As for rightfullness to posting here or anywhere else .... open forum with open topic... and hardware required ... go cry at sony that your ps1 dont play ps3 games. Reality check.

Woops, sounds like you avoided roboblitz which is not yet a year old and runs with UE3 engine.

Don't you remember how people bitched when Q4 released or Doom 3 , im only getting spotty fps whaaaa...

No, I played both of them on different configs from 1.4Ghz to P4 3ghz with 4 differents GPU, when these games have been released. When modulating level of details they where all acceptable. Bonus, they played pretty well on full detail with my old config (the same as the current but with AIW9800Pro128MB as GPU which was about 2 years old or more when theses game came out).
Truth => HW Geeks cried because they couldn't play the game with full detail at 200fps. Those people are the same bitching when their top notch pc only plays Quake 2 at 300fps. People that don't understand that in PC world is the world of good design and consessions should just stick to consoles.

They are not writing the game for you (this may not be the case with capcom in this instance) they are coding an engine to sell to other developers. Games in this case are a showcase ... look what we can do.

I'm not quite really impressed with Lost Planet (graphically) and so are many other people. Many people prefers to see a showcase as : "look we can do this only with the power of a good software technology" instead of seeing one like "look what we can do with the very last generation hardware".
Example with recent technologies : procedural textures using ProFX2 (a dozen of kB per usal hi-rez textures with normal/bump/specular...) VS BluRay disk (45GB of data, weee let's store uncompressed textures).
Now a lesson of communication : when doing a showcase you advertise it, you specifically inform "IT'S A SHOWCASE FOR THESE PLATEFORMS xxxxxxxx"; if not, that's not a showcase, it's a flaw. When releasing a demo bugged and not finished to be optimized, you put care to inform about it.

I'd like to drive a lambo .. but cant afford one so i dont ... should they make them cheaper so i can?

Do lambo are computer programs? no, not comparable. Stop the low-IQ-level comparison attempts, that's ludicrous.

No ... so why dumb down games

Because PC games aren't only for no-lifers that spend all their money on their PC(s) or rich peoples. PC video games always promoted good design and engine flexibility, unlike fixed hardware targets like consoles which can be really pushed to their limit without risk to have a bug because someone has a different GPU version or whatever.

Games and hardware are ever evolving its the nature of the pc.  Buy now something better comes out 3 months later. You cant expect to be cutting edge on 2 year old hardware.

Geez, you're slow or what? We don't want to run it at full details. We want to run it.

As for rightfullness to posting here or anywhere else .... open forum with open topic... and hardware required ... go cry at sony that your ps1 dont play ps3 games. Reality check.

You sure DO need a big Reality check : PC plateforms = dynamic hardware plateforms, consoles = fixed hardware plateforms. Reality checked good.

I ran Doom 3 well on Radeon 9100- Medium details, 800x600 plus all the advanced options on.

They are not writing the  game for you (this may not be the case with capcom in this instance) they are coding an engine to sell to other developers. Games in this case are a showcase ... look what we can do.

Yeah, lol, games are for aliens.

I want run it, not run it on highest details.

hello all, i'm another frustrated user browsing for answers about the first game i try on my machine and won't even run,

my important system specs:

Amd athlon xp 2800+
1gb ram ddr
geforce 6800gt

any good looking game i tried on my machine runs fine for my likes , i'm happy playing games at 640x480 @ medium settings with good framerates, (20 to 30fps average) and to date no game runs unplayable on my machine, so, why not at least give the chance to not rich people like me to at least try this game at user settings?? you know buying a new cpu means buying a new motherboard as well, so i find it pretty offensive the way developers "shut consumers's mouth and preventing them to give their vote of choice about what they want to buy without even being able to test the product they are interested on" please don't come with the "old hardware" excuse because even older and slower pentium 4's can run it.

so, please don't forget the mainstream market.

SSE2 technology is six years old. If you want to blame someone, blame AMD for not adopting it into their chipsets until 2003 (which I might add was still a stunning four years ago).

Personally, I'm surprised that companies aren't starting to take advantage of SSE3, which was introduced three years ago.

Yeah! let's pay Intel some other royalties to use their patent on SSE1/2/ when we are something called a "market challenger".
As a matter of fact librairies like directX, your GPU drivers uses advanced instructions sets (SSEx/3DNow!/MMX....) but they are programmed for all of them and know how to uses all of them and use the available paths. Any 3D engine should do the same as they demonstrated not having one of them is an handicap. If it is one then it should be explained why when asked (like some companies doing console functions emulation routines for their PC adaptation to gain development time :P)
