Monster Hunter got a bad rating because of a poor information/advertising campaign. Thus the poor scores were from reviewers who couldn't spend more than 16 hours playing it -- when it takes at least 30 hours for a new players to even get to the minor stuff in Monster Hunter.

Monster Hunter was pretty good.  What I think really hurt it was not much of a story driven single player campaign to get your feet wet.  A story mode would have been awesome.  The offline stuff is basically just tutorials, but still a fun game.

Oh and BTW it's been hinted at and it's pretty likely that Dead Rising will get some kind of follow up and I can see room for that.  In a post DR interview Inafune or one of the developers(Can't remember) joked about making it a vacation resort so they could go there and do research. Ha, there's also another rumor that DR2 would be PS3 exclusive.  The bottom line, don't believe rumors wait for the official word.  Basically I'm not against sequels if they sell well and if there's room to develop the story further, why not? Lost Planet has that potential.
