I've been watching videos on LP3 and I really wanted to find more people to talk about it with. Honestly I'm not liking the current direction the gameplay is going, nor do I like the idea of heavily focusing on a narrative, especially after playing something like Lost Planet 2, which I felt was very underappreciated and was a great experience. Now it's outsourced to some Western company, and the MT Frameworks 2 engine is now being dropped for the Unreal Engine?? Not too many games on Unreal that are not made by Epic have a unique source of depth in gameplay aspects, and when I compare the two games visually, I actually prefer the looks of the MTF2 over Unreal 3.
I would like to hear everyone's opinions and feelings about Lost Planet 3. You're free to feel optimistic or pessimistic, or just plain honest, because deep inside most of my feelings towards the game are currently negative. I love this series, and I'd hate to see it deviate from such a unique, innovative, and fun style of gameplay to "Just another shooter."
[I'm really not liking this Jim guy. He's like another carbon cutout so-called "Average Joe". I don't care about him, his family, his kids, none of that. I liked being a Snow Pirate. That was one of my favorite things about Lost Planet ever since the first one was released on 360. I remember when I played that multiplayer demo, not to shortly after finishing Desert Punk, and it was like a dream. I liked Wayne, it didn't feel like I was forced to give a damn about something so shallow as story, not to mention it had the right amount of game physics, hitstuns, response, frames, and skill, also fun things like the trademark anchor, and various grenades (The dummy was my favorite because it reminded me of Kanta's balloon grenades in Desert Punk back then.) Not to mention shooting them.
Lost Planet 2 was even better in my opinion because unlike LP1, it wasn't so Grenade Spam Heavy, and people didn't create rooms that had primarily explosive items with no recoil. I liked the campaign and getting to experience it with my friends online, and was packed with secrets and content- that sweet ass VS Force combination and train stage, which was hell but always my favorite. The customization could use some work and I admit I did prefer finding various weapons over having preferences. But I did enjoy personalizing my character and the shuriken - Which was a love hate weapon nonetheless.
I'm still waiting to see what the multiplayer for LP3 is because it was a significant reason of my love for the game. I don't see those elements I loved about the first two games in this one, and to be honest, despite it being open world, I think I would've still preferred the T-ENG counter. The thing I loved most about Lost Planet was that need to simply SURVIVE, by all means and all costs.
It seems (correct me if I'm wrong) the devlopers or LP3 are focusing much less on multi-player online gaming.I'm not referring to the 4 player co-op,which a found good for gaining more weapons in LP2 2,but somewhat limited. This would be a great disappointment to the many faithful players of LP1 and 2. It looks like a completely new game. The first two of the series were great games.Maybe it was just a matter of promoting them better.
Online multi-player is what will keep players coming back a long time to come and buying game add ons.I still see old and new players in Extreme condition. I'm willing to bet they would still purchase more maps and layouts if it were possible.
I'm very sad that the grappling hook will not be available anyplace in the game as it used to be.The was a key feature in the game that made it much more fun and unique. You could grapple up a wall, release ,and shoot while you were in mid air or hide, hanging on the side of a building etc.Great stuff!
Also there were no other games that had the realistic motion physics of LP1 & 2. It was beautiful.

Don't ruin its greatness
Please Capcom MAKE IT SO
That is exactly how I feel. I loved the mechanics and technical aspects of LP, that and their unique, and quirky features. I don't care if LP2 wasn't recieved well or understood by most critics, when I played it, it was exactly what I wanted and it epic. Especially playing through the final campaign online with my friends. I loved taking on strategic and quick thinking warriors on the battlefield, and the hookshot provided many ways of manuverability as well as a means of escape. I enjoyed shooting grenades. There was so much in those past two titles that I don't see returning in LP3. I feel like Devil May Cry fans, and I can relate, because it's more than just cosmetic disagreements. I wish Capcom and many other Japanese Devs had more faith in their product.
@YOUNG ANTI - I don't think it's about the engine. Both render polygons and textures, and it's not like an Unreal Engine game can't be as deep as an MT Framework game. However, I do think that both LP1 and LP2 were really good-looking.
It's unfortunate that the series doesn't seem to be sticking in the direction that it started in. I don't mind the main character, Jim, that much. He seems like an alright character by himself, but I did like the customization of LP2 a lot. If it were a little more deep (i.e. different shoes, hats, gloves, and recolorable clothing) and had more options, it would have been really awesome.
As for the games themselves, I really liked LP1: Colonies and LP2. LP1 was a lot of fun, and even though the customization wasn't deep (just selection of skins and colors), it was cool that you got to select how you looked. I loved that robot skin, ha ha. I recently played a 1v1 match versus someone who used to be really good on Colonies, and it was a lot of fun. I didn't even mind losing - he still is a good player, heh. Usually it's a bit frustrating playing online versus games because the game's not balanced, or because there's not enough strategy - there was a ton of strategy in the LP games.
I think LP2 didn't get the good reviews it deserved, either. To me, at least, it improved on a lot of the major problems / features of LP1. It missed Akrid Hunter, and the story wasn't as deep, but the game felt tighter, it was less cheap, there were more weapon options, and the maps were really interesting. I didn't mind the hitstun, either. To me, it added to the gameplay. It made it satisfying to get surprised, but still be able to pull a KO out of an encounter with another player online, or KO a really awesome player with a well placed grenade. It was very strategic - a lot of multiplayer online was about positioning, rolling at the right time, using the right weapons, and so on. You could take on someone with a plasma cannon II and unlimited thermal energy using just a normal machine gun if you were good enough.
And yeah, I liked the T-Energy. It made it a little more difficult to stay alive, and made it worth it to fight enemies. Subbing that out for just a 'currency' approach is a bit cheap. It's looking like there won't be nearly the amount of depth to LP3. They've already taken out free anchoring (as far as I can tell). If they take out grenade shooting, it won't be Lost Planet at all anymore. I won't even mind if they develop the single player campaign in the new style and develop the multiplayer gameplay in the old style (i.e. free anchoring, lots of weapons, customization, etc).
You can forget that LP3 will be a game like LP1, LPC or LP2. I find LP1/LPC as best game ever. I agree with LP2 low score. This game is unblanced, overloaded, bugged, unfinished and has tons of design errors. It has cool customization - that`s a fact, but who cares about customization when you get frustrated with gameplay and bad design ? Hundreds of emotes ? Who cares ? I think there are more important things a shooter game needs instead of tons of customizaion and emotes...
Nobody will hear you voice about LP3 cause they have made design decisions long, long ago. I`ve checked it personally at SPARK, trying to let them know about this community and our feedback.
I don`t think they focus on singleplayer only. They just didn`t show multiplayer yet. Personally i think it`s a good move not to show everything (or more than game includes) like they did with LP2. No idea what this game is going to be like... Just hope it won`t be Gears of War placed in snow... They changed almost everything that was essential for this game, so i prefer to stop crying about LP roots (cause it`s pointless) and try to enjoy new game : Lost Planet 3.
Oh, and i would pay full game price (60$ right ? ) for few new maps for Colonies... And i`m sure more people would do either....

Could you specify what you find to be unbalanced/overloaded(?)/bugged? I can agree that there were some ****ups (particularly less online modes and ranked being stuck on Team/Elimination/DPB) but I'm curious about the rest.
On topic -- personally I despise everything about "LP" 3 since the announcement, starting from the design (characters, Rig and Akrids) and continuing with gameplay and animations. Up until the announcement I would have never thought that a new game would have ever existed, due to the "failure" of LP2 (which wasn't totally true as the game ended selling a bit more than LP1) and the idea that we could have had a true sequel that improved upon both games instead of this "thing" with an identity crisis is quite depressing. I don't even have idea if 3 bombing would help for a possible (japanese) 4, or it would declare the IP's death, the only thing that I'm sure of is that supporting it will only help convincing Capcom that outsourcing is the way to go in order to make a (bigger) profit, leading other series to the unfortunate end of DMC, LP and BC (mostly due to Rearmed2 as 2009 was a good game on its own) so buying it for brand loyalty would do more harm than good.
Seriously though, I want to hear/see some updated information on LP3 before completly dismissing it. (though I have reservations that Spark is going to screw this up)
On a positive note. Lost Planet EX Troopers is supposed to be released in November in Japan, hope we see it here in the states.

We`ve been disscusing it here for months. Check old threads you`ll find everything. No point to start negative posting again. LP2 case is closed by CAPCOM long ago.
I must say i really like the direction lp3 seems to be Taking, tho i still want more of that awesome lp2 Co op, so unless lp3 also has great co op, i want an lp4 with polished lp2 gameplay, even if i was the only ome who liked killing NEVEC and pirates just as mich as the akrid :P
