I'm shocked at how some of you guys managed to put trust in the LP3 project, it was obvious from the start that it wouldn't have been anything like the previous games and the previews/gameplay videos since the announcement only managed to further demonstrate how much it was different and badly done (those animations and collisions make me shudder). I'm really glad that the controls list with the infamous "cover button" was posted, it's a great way to clear doubts from those who still had hope.
To add to my point, I'll post what (little) I found over the past few months which I think wasn't posted here. This snippet is from a Siliconera preview - unlike most other sites, the writer played the previous games and shares his thoughts on the grappling hook instead of just mentioning it's existance :
The grappling hook, which I thought was a blast to use in the previous games, is now designated only to specific grapple points. No more grappling onto enemies and shooting point-blank into their weak points, no more hopping up the sides of buildings. In fact, when I was tasked with leaving the laboratory, the route I took into the lab was just out of reach, but that route was not a designated grapple point. While the lack of a grapple point ultimately led me in the direction I was supposed to go, it’s a bummer that the hook can only be used at scripted points. www.siliconera.com/2012/06/07/lost-plane...
It looks like that it will be even worse than what the producer said during the streaming, with it not just being limited to flat surfaces, but being full on scripted with icons showing where to use it.
Regarding the multiplayer, the japanese site (opened back in april if I'm not mistaken) says it will be up to 10 players, instead of 16.

Considering the newly "revelead" cover system, it will surely be a full blown gears clone. Thought I wonder if they'll limit it to the MP or implement it in the campaign too, seeing how there were no human enemies shown yet.
Also a personal thought : the roll animation will probably work as an "I win button" with full invincibility frames and no drawback, much like DmC's evade. Grenade shooting and "control" over where to throw them will probably be absent too.
With 8 or 9 months of development left, it will hardly improve on anything, they'll simply finish what's left of the campaign/multiplayer and MAYBE squash some bugs - those horrid animations and castrated gameplay will be what the game ships with.

It's tough to find a game where you get the opportunity to plan and strategise. LP2 allowed me to do that but I fear that that luxury is gone. I like being able to get out of tough situations with the skills I aquired through extended play -as this was a game where to get better you had to observe, learn and adapt.
I like how I could be overwhelmed by two or even three people with energy guns, roll out at the right moment, toss a grenade, shoot it and kill 2 then regain my ground and pick-off the last with my machine gun SP. I won't be able to do that now I'm sure.
Exactly. That was a lot of the fun of LP. It was great to go up against someone with Plasma Cannon SP + Support Gun II (The thermal one) with just an ordinary machine gun, and take 'em down with well-placed shots and rolls. It was a lot of fun to see someone grappling up toward you and catch 'em with a well-placed grenade; to roll into charged energy gun shots, placing you at an advantage; to take down a VS with just grenades, somehow rolling out of VS rocket launcher fire... Man, it was just fun all around because of the strategy. It played quickly enough for you to have to think on your feet, and slowly enough for you to be able to set things up, and predict players' movements. I think LP2 / LPC were possibly the most fun online TPSes to date.

The one question I have for this game is this. Are they going to remove stun lock and will they improve the net-coding? In lost planet 2 there was terrible lag even when you played it on a local lan connection.

I experienced the opposite - the lag wasn't that bad, and I could play fine on LP2, where LPC / LP1 was unplayable. I kept dropping connection to the servers (not to XBOX LIVE, just the game servers). I hope they'll keep the stunlock. I'm probably going to pick up this anyway, but it's not looking as familiar. Maybe that's fine, though - maybe this will be actually more fun than LP2. If so, then that's good, I suppose.

I think you are wrong LVND. If you`ll visit Sparks website you`ll see this : www.sparkunlimited.com/jobs_position_ani... Especially this is very interseting : Responsibilities : -Create high quality character animation at a quality bar suitable for next-generation console development. and this : Preferred Skills : -Experience with motion capture pipelines and data adjustment in a game environment. It means they are aware that animations are bad, it was probably made only for demo purpose. It aslo means that there will be motion capture in this game what will drasticlly improve all animations. I`m sad about no-jump and cover-button, but this and rest of job descriptions make me feel much better.

Oh well, I didn't check their job listings but I still doubt they'll improve enough (if anything at all) to compare to previous games, not to mention that, with the gameplay being flawed, I don't find any point in looking forward to it. Sadly supporting it would kill the series as we know it. Boycotting it would probably have a similiar effect (with "lack of sales" as the reason) but there would still be the chance for a return to the series original gameplay, especially seeing how Capcom is vaguely interested in expanding it with spin offs.

I hate the crosshair, can you change it? EDIT: What happened to the boxes? Does that mean no more Lottery? Hopefully they'll be custimizable characters and unlockable weapons... EDIT2: I also hate the new VS Suit mechanics, it sucks. If this is how the new LP3 going to be like, they might as well scrap it, the only interesting thing are the graphics...

Looks like they tried way too hard to mix in mass effect, dead space and lost planet. The rig thing looks stupid. I've always hated mechs, because they're so sluggish and boring to pilot. You aren't actually fighting anything either. Look at something, press a button, ooh! quick time event! So stupid.
