Ok thought I would throw this up as after just buying the disk for Lost Planet I was kicked in the teeth by the "Operating System is inadequate ... etcetera" message when I went to install it.

However I think I have worked out a way around this without having to resort to using steam to download the  8gig  file that is the game.

This method assumes that you have got a steam account and steam installed on your machine,

{ if you don't have Steam installed , install it from the disk, it is held in the "Steam" directory there, just goto the language folder that corresponds with the language you speak and install the file in there. }

1) Log into Steam and goto the "games" tab.
2) Click on the "Activate a product on steam...." button
3) Go through the process it takes you through, entering in the CD-Key and so on.
4) Steam will then verify what files you have on your computer for the game and start downloading the whole thing because it will see that you don't have it installed yet.
5) Once it starts downloading, "right-click" on "Lost Planet:Extreme condition", and select "Pause Updating".
6) "right click" again on lost planet:extreme condition and select "Delete Local content" Don't worry about this, Lost Planet will still be associated with your Steam account forever more hehe
7) Leave Steam logged in, Goto "My Computer" and explore your DVD. run the "Action1.exe" file. This will start installing LP from the disk and not downloading it from steam.

Once this is done LP will start downloading updates, be warned this isn't exactly small hehe, but at least its not 8gig

Should anyone notice something wrong with this, please feel free to let me know as I am writing this after a rather hectic day and am feeling a tad frazzled and have probably put something wrong somewhere :D

Ah, not quite sure what to suggest there  . As it stands mine downloaded the updates no problem.
A couple of suggestions:

1) Could the Steam servers be having problems where you are. (Have a look at the Steam forums, there may be others having the same problem in your neck of the woods, just for your info I updated in the UK )

2) Have you tried the updating with your firewall and anti-virus turned off temporarily

Ok I know these steps are basic but its always good to start at the beginning :)

Hope you get this sorted soon

Yes, as soon as it installed I went to play it and it started updating.
As for updateing it another way not via Steam I'm not sure that there is as keeping it to Steam means that theres less "shall we say dodgy " copies out there.
I would suggest contacting CapCom and seeing if your local offices can shed some light on the matter, or maybe like i say the Steam forums and see if theres probs with the australian servers.

Hope it works for you, it worked for me thankfully (after a while of working out what file was what on the disk lol and trying to remember how steam worked hehe)

Good Luck:D
