My new monitor arrived and after a bit of playing around with the ingame Refresh rate, managed to get 1440 x 900 as a resolution selection. Only thing is when I play there are black bars across the top and bottom of the screen. This is the only game I've tried so far that has this problem. Anyone any ideas how to fix it and make it use the whole screen.

The monitor is 1440 x 900 and I've chosen 1440 x 900 in game so am not entirely sure why its showing the bars.

I might actually get away with playing that high which is nice, loose about 20 FPS over playing at 1024 x 768 like I was, just need to get rid of those black bars.

I guess you got a wide screen LCD with 16:9 aspect ratio monitor.
But you need post your monitor model native resolution and aspect ratio is.

I have Hanns-G Wide 19" LCD. 1440x900 native resolution and 16:10 aspect ratio.
My Lost Planet fit in the full screen. I get a constant 50 FPS on DX 9 mode.

The monitor is a Samsung 940BW and its native 1440 x 900 16:10 thats whats confusing me, why does it insist on showing these bands when set to 1440 x 900 in game, no other game is.

Also playing in DX10 mode so not sure if its only that version thats causing an issue.

I forget ask. What your screen refresh rate? My monitor has 60Hertz and 75 Hertz screen refresh option.
If I chose 75 Hz.  my screen cut off a bit vertically. And suffer a little low FPS.

If your monitor refresh rate is higher then 60Hz. Set to 60hz and let see your problem go ways.

My monitor is indeed set to 75, but I cannot choose 60, as the 1440 x 900 option is no longer available, even though my monitor can do either at that resolution, very odd.

Umm... I guess reinstall your Monitor (if comes with monitor) and Graphic driver ?
Your using DX 10 so your running Vista (32 or 64?). Make sure get latest driver from nVidia.

I didn’t using a Vista for gaming at moment (I just install it and testing)

The problem has to be with this game, no other game is showing this odd behaviour, even games that don't support it by default I can even get working correctly editing the configs.

I had similar problems with the old CRT I was using while I was waiting on the new one coming, only certain frequencies supported certain resolutions, its the only game I have ever played that exhibits this odd behaviour. Why they made it this way I have no idea, I'm guessing it wasn't intentional.

[EDIT]

My bro just phoned me and says he figured out how to make it fit, there is an option about Correct Aspect Ratio that he unchecked and it fitted. Now, this is not true support of 1440 x 900 is simply streched the screen up and down to fit. Why is this resolution an option when it isn't even true? I don't want some stretched version of the game, I want true 1440 x 900 support like it says.

Just did a bit of searching. Although this is a port, and it would appear they did little to make it more PC friendly, like all control options still showing an Xbox controller I looked for people with similar problems and I stumbled across a post about Xbox 360 supported resolutions.

640 X 480 60hz 4:3
848 X 480 60hz 16:9
1024 X 768 60hz 4:3
1280 X 720 60hz 16:9
1280 X 1024 60hz 5:4
1360 X 768 60hz 16:9

Now, as I am set to 1440 x 900 and I am seeing black bars I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that the devs didn't actually ad true 16:10 support, as the 1440 x 900 option would suggest, they simply stuck to the 1360 x 768 16:9 and renamed it 1440 x 900 and figured stuff them, they can use the nifty Adjust Correct Aspect. This would certainly explain the black bands.

If this is the case can we please have true 16:10 support in the next patch, like the options say. I mean really, this is the newest game I own, even old games that don't support widescreen by default can be made to. It can't be that hard can it?

Yes it does fix it. But I would like it to work properly as it is supposed to not a stretched to fit version.
