To be honest, this game didn't quite bomb. Polygon gave it a respectable 7 out of 10, which isn't bad at all. It's an entirely different game than Lost Planet 2, and you know what? There's nothing wrong with that fact.

It's tough, because as much as I liked Lost Planet Colonies, and as much as LP2 improved on the formula (and I liked it more than LP:C, I think), there's still a large population of people who didn't like either of them. Like, at all. There are some people who just didn't like the lack of story, the sometimes finicky controls, and the "kind of arcade-ish" feeling of it.

Now, I'm not saying that this is an improvement on the series, but I like that it exists, that the series was continued. I hope that this would mean more Lost Planet games in the future, or better yet, more support for this one with bug fixes and more content. Sure, I personally would have really liked more games in LP2's style, but when you think about it, is it that surprising to see a completely different direction for this game? If a game gets a 7/10, and then Capcom put precious time and effort into giving it a sequel, and it gets a 6/10, I don't really blame them for at least trying something different. They can't appeal to just Lost Planet fans - that may not have been and still may not be profitable enough.

Well it comes to sales .. and we don't know those (correct me if I'm wrong). Sure, LP2 did get bad reviews. Worse then LP3 in many cases. Still the games was exactly what was expected from second installment of Lost Planet. Same mechanics. More guns, more characters, more mechs, more akrid. Yeah, somewhat no-story, and unbalanced and buggy MP, which especially killed it, but the game was solid. LP fans mostly liked it. I LOVE IT.

Also LP1 was one of the first XBOX games .. and very good looking too. I know people who had XBOX with Halo, LP1 .. and nothing else except later. LP2 could never have such good environment .. and I've heard speculations, that Capcome expected sales like Halo series with LP2. Well in such case, I understand it was flop.

But this is just embarasing .. you don't like a series, let it rest. But don't give it to western studio to make a total GENERIC 3rd person shooter.

It's not the case anyway, as Ex Troopers look fantastic !

While it may not be a Sequel/Prequel that most wanted or needed so far I am enjoying the story and setting.

If this would have came out first instead over the other 2 (excluding colonies since its an expansion) then I still would have got into the series for its story.

Yes I will agree it looks generic and to begin with it feels it too, but again I am enjoying the story, the openish world and side quests.

Each Lost Planet has brought with it something new to make it stand out agianst its sequels, this does the same in terms of story.

It may not be what I wanted at all but I am having a blast so far. The reviews are wrong, just like they were wrong with LP 2. Story alone makes this a 6-7/10.

I am looking forward to play LP3 tomorrow once its released here in Europe :] One of the games I've been waiting for a long time.

I watched a playthrough of the game in a live stream, and the story seemed really good.

It's kinda odd and funny, people disliked Lost Planet series for being arcade-game like and didn't have depth, now it is more of a western like game and has a good story, but people still complain, this time for being too generic. Do this or that, it never seems to work out. :l

I was very sad when i read reviews, but then i realized that my score almost never match with critics score. I`m waiting for European premiere just like Finhiisi and going to play it. The only thing that scarys me are PC version crashes (please guys fix it till tomorrow...) and GameSpy for multiplayer. Who`s idea it was to use GameSpy instead of Steam ? GameSpy doesn`t exist anymore on market. They`re shut down in February !
