I'm sure most people felt like Lost Planet 3 would not be like LP2 or LPEC after watching the debut trailer, and you're probably right. I hated that idea up until after I read the IGN preview. " It's when Jim plants his thermal post in a cave – the thermal posts that you used in Lost Planets 1 and 2 were all originally planted by earlier colonists like Jim – that the game starts to reveal its survival horror credentials. As the ice melts in seconds, it reveals an abandoned base – a base that shouldn't be there, if Jim really is among the first humans ever to set foot on the planet. Inside, Lost Planet 3 shows flashes of Dead Space. There are ruined, ominously dark corridors, scuttling and screeching sounds from the vents above, locked doors and dead generators. Some of the audio cues are straight out of Alien, and even the holographic display that Jim can bring up in front of him is reminiscent of Isaac Clarke's."
I don't care what anyone says, that sounds really interesting. It's almost like what LPEC was trying to accomplish but never did. And after looking at some pictures, it's the best looking Lost Planet so far. I want to see more, Capcom!

I agree, it sounds very good. I'm pretty excited to see some gameplay. Only thing that has me worried a little bit is co-op. I know they're going to have a co-op mode, but what is it going to entail? Played some Lost Planet 2 recently and the Gordiant boss is f***ing ACE! The size is perfect, big enough to make you feel really threatened but not so big to the point where it's not even interactive. The fact that it goes all around the area is key. And then it's various attacks that can get you at almost any range. Making you want to hide and offering great places to hide and feel SOL like in that little tunnel passage underneath the one data post. The many ways to attack it from straight up shooting the core on from a distance on climbing onto the beast or using a VS, to shooting off the legs and going inside it. All accompanied with a great music score, great sounds effects, and great visual effects. Combine that all with three other friends. Just a great experience that they couldn't even completely replicate in other stages of LP2 (though came close with some). If we don't get to fight large (but not too large!) well thought out akrid in well thought out locations with friends I'm going to be really bummed. But as far as the singleplayer goes, it looks exactly like what I always wanted after I first completed the story mode in Extreme Condition.

So it sounds like working class generic Jim trudges along planting data posts, then he hears a scary noise. Out of the shadows an akrid appears. Jim finds some cover behind a large snow pile, holds down the LT to aim and then shoots the akrid right between the eyes. Repeat with various changes to the scary movie soundtrack as Jim moves from cover to cover planting data posts and retreats to his semi-VS to recover health and save his game progress. Also whenever Jim gets injured by an Akrid the screen flashes a bloodshot red.

From what the previews say, I think the campaign is going to be single player only this time around. There'll probably be competitive and co-op modes to look forward to though. There's nothing better than taking down akrids with your friends. And I agree with you about the sizes of akrid. Both Gordiant and Akrid X were my favorite bosses in LP2. They were the only bosses who were big and were able to interact with us and the enviorment. And sorry to get off topic, but are you on the Merqurycity forums? Yeah, read the rest of the article, they're making quite a few changes to how the game will play and most of them don't seem good in my eyes. I mean I won't condemn the game until i play it, but right now it doesn't sound to good to me.

Haven't seen enough to say whether it's good or not but I'm definitely interested. I wonder how those side missions are going to play out.
