ok listen up i noticed that not all the pc gamers don't know about this yet so I'm here to spread the word if MODS feel like making a sticky do so steam has a community Beta that every steam user should have an invite under options
click and enable this after that follow the instructions and restart the Steam Client
After restart go to settings and make sure in game is enabled  then make your own public profile if you don't have one , with these Community Beta i was able to communicate  with friends while in the game yes you heard in game instant messaging and voice chat also this  works with non-steam games sort of like x box live :P  shift-tab will bring you the interface where while you are in a lost planet lobby you will be able to add friends from the existing players and make a
voice chat conference room with your team to communicate while playing word of advice don't hit shift-tab while in loading process or at the start up of lost planet as you may encounter problems if you need more help or you want to join a group this is my link :   http://steamcommunity.com/groups/gamingmercenaries
