Switch to Forum Live View Split-Screen Co-op Unplayable on SD TV

Hello Capcom,

I have purchased and have been playing Lost Planet 2 for PlayStation 3 since yesterday and loving it, except for one thing.

Unfortunatly, I only have a 36 inch SD TV to play games on, and I am still trying to gather up the funds to buy an HD TV. When playing Split screen Co-op, the size of each screen does not take up the entire screen space, making it very hard to see. I understand why this is done in this fashion, but for a game of epic and massive proportions, the tiny screen size totally kills the overall gaming experience. The size of each screen is about the size of a standard piece of paper, 8.5"x12".

I know Resident Evil 5 utilized the same split screen concept, however, when I played that in Split screen Co-op it took up nearly all the space provided on the top and bottom screens, with only about an inch of space from the left and right sides of the screen, which did not pose a problem. I think the reason it was ok for Resident Evil 5 and not Lost Planet 2, is becuase it did not have any from of graphic to the side of the screen. On Lost Planet 2, to the side of the screen is some sort of green radar, which is taking up vauable screen space.

I tryed playing around with the Display Settings on my PS3, but its not getting any better. I do not know how to best sovle this.

Your support and understanding is greatly appreciated, Thank you.

I had just created a thread on this when I saw this one.  I deleted mine and thought I would share my thoughts on this as well.

The biggest struggle that I have had with the game so far is the split-screen.  I  really don't like how small it looks.  I  wish I could have it be one  over the top of the other without  "staggering" the screens.  Staggering  them just makes it too small.  The TV that I have is really not that  small, but I felt that my buddy and I had to sit pretty close to the TV  to see everything.  That was a bit frustrating... I with there was an  option to have the split sceeen fill the entire screen... even if it  makes the overhead side map a little smaller.  If I could have one thing  changed (or an option put in) it would be that.

Edit:  Added screenshot

My friend and I were very disappointed when we started playing offline co-op. The staggering really ruins the experience. Is that an Akrid? SHOOT IT! Thats what kept happening and then we just gave up. I pretty much just play co-op online now. No small staggered screens and no stupid map out in the middle of nowhere. *sigh*

They wanted to keep the screens to the proper aspect ratio. Deal with it.

There's a surprising amount of games which have various issues with SD. I guess it's not something developers really have to take into consideration too much. I mean even the PS3s XMB looks awful in SD as the menus don't scale properly.

There could be Multiplayer options and settings that one can choose from to adjust the split-screen size to whatever preference is more suitable for you. Offer a variety of options that one can choose from instead of one set way. This way, one can choose whatever screen size and settings they enjoy best and ultimately have the best gaming experience, no matter what size of TV one has.
