I have just finished the part of the story when you are asked to restore the comms dish and I want say that I'm loving the Utility Rig.

I guess what I like the most about it is how realistic it looks and moves, as well as how the game mechanics allow it to use its drilling equipment to overcome its lack of weapons (love to pick those Dongos and drill them a new one; the posture and result almost seem as if I was removing the tail of a lobster).

The personalized cockpit of the UR is also a nice touch, as well as the Psychic evaluation videos that randomly show Jim in his everyday life while in his UR.

I remember an old OVA, Gundam 0080, which before the first mission showed the interior of the cockpits of the pilots of some combat robots (Mobile Suits, MS for short), and one of them had lots of posters and porn around and was thing his lucky bandana to his head, while another one had a bootle of booze hanging from the top of his cockpit to easily allow taking sips in mid battle. His superior had to ask him to ease up on the booze before starting the mission.

I love this kind of details that give some more personality to the characters and makes it easier to feel attached to them.

Upgrading your UR is another detail I really like, since it gives you a better sense of property over your personal machine. I'm still early on the game, so I hope I have yet to see the best upgrades available.

The soundtrack idea inside the UR is another interesting idea, though how much you like it would depend on whether you like the included tracks. Actually I recall hearing something about being able to add your own tracks to the game, but I haven't really looked into it.

Though at this point it won't applied to the game, I think it would have been cool to have the game allow you to port images which you could use as decals for your UR. The former I have seen been used for making some makeshift summons in the Hyperdimension Neptunia series, while the later is used in the Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation PS3 game.

Well, that's it for now. I'll let you guys know more about what I find out about the UR as I progress some more in the game.

Been a while, but I just recently have finished the main campaign. In the process my UR got all sort of additional tools, which naturally ended up becoming quite for improvising combat against the Akrid.

Without doubt, the most useful upgrade I got was the winch, essentially providing the UR the means to engage enemies at long range. Basically S-CAT Akrid get killed instantly, while M-CAT Akrids get caught from afar and brought right in front of the UR, at which point you just need to decide how are you going to dispose of the unlucky fellow: drilling him, crushing him, incinerate him, electrocute him or simply toss him to the other end of the map. I must applaud the creativity of the people that came up with these killing sequences.

The second most useful upgrade is certainly the T-ENG absoerber, that allows you to collect dropped TE without stepping out of the UR. Taking down Akrids with UR is far easier and faster with the UR, which means that the only that was left was the need to step down in order to collect the rewards, specially if there were other enemeis left around.

However, as expected, there were other upgrades that I didn't find very useful, and in the end I felt like I should have left them for last. The Double Arm Smash had limited usefulness, mainly against a few bosses which you didn't need any strategy against to defeat (at elast durign aprt fo teh fight), just some good old pummeling. Even then, it certainly didn't make a dramatic difference, or at least it didn't look to me that way. Then there's the forearm bash which I'm not even sure I ever got use or at least never got the cue to try it.

On a different note, I also tried multiplayer mode and tried a Vital Suit, and despite its simplicity, I did liked it. I did try to find more info about this VS, but it seems it doesn't even have a model number or any additional info available.

I'll comment some more on other features of the UR and VS later one.
